Biography

As a Stevens Institute of Technology Graduate, Bachelor of Engineering '01 and Master of Engineering '05 in Computer Engineering, Dennis J. Hromin has always aimed to be creative in his field of work encompassing computer software and hardware design. Although he has not had formal training in fine arts or photography, Mr. Hromin has acquired a passion toward photographing scenic landscapes and has taken his sense of creativity and applied it to capturing extraordinary and rare viewpoints in still image.

While most photographers showcase their work in a rectangular full-framed or cropped piece, Mr. Hromin's works are presented in a wide aspect or panoramic format that exceeds fields of view (FOV) larger than what a human eye can see. The images may cover a horizontal FOV as large as 180 degrees and may have an extended vertical FOV as well. What sets his work and technique apart from other conventional methods is that no specialized panoramic equipment is used to create the images. Only a standard digital SLR camera is utilized.

Mr. Hromin is also passionate about a applying a new technique in the field of digital photography called HDR or high dynamic range. HDR is a process that brings out more detail in color tones in a photograph beyond the capabilities of what a standard digital camera can provide. This involves capturing multiple identical photographs of varying degrees of exposure. When this process is applied to photographic scenes with sharp contrasts of light, the end result is an accurate portrayal of the intensity of color in real life vistas. Such visual results can be very impressive.
